I haven’t been this excited for the NFL Draft since I was a kid. I was totally giddy when I heard that the top picks had been decided. I mean, it’s always been one of the most nerve-wracking and unpredictable events in professional sports, so this was my first chance to see who would take the spoils.
The top pick was, of course, Trevor Lawrence, who was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Everyone knew that was going to be the case, but nonetheless it was an exciting event. After him, the top four picks were Zaven Collins, Micah Parsons, Ja’Marr Chase and Devonta Smith. After that, there were some surprises and some not so surprising picks.
One of the biggest surprises was the pick of Mac Jones, chosen by the Patriots with the 15th overall pick. Jones was not expected to go this high and a lot of people thought that the Patriots should’ve chosen someone else. However, the Patriots must know something that the rest of us don’t, and they chose him anyway.
The next draft pick that was interesting was Trey Lance, chosen by the 49ers with the third overall pick. Lance had a great college career and he was expected to go this early, but there were some questions about his ability to step up to the professional level. Still, it’s an exciting pick, and we’ll just have to wait and see if he can develop into a star quarterback at the next level.
A lot of people were surprised by the Las Vegas Raiders picking Alex Leatherwood with the 17th overall pick. He was rated much lower on most mock drafts than most people expected. However, the Raiders must know something that they other teams didn’t, and he may turn out to be a great pick.
My favorite pick of the draft is Najee Harris, who was the first running back chosen at the 24th pick by the Steelers. Harris had a great college career and was a standout in many different categories. He’s sure to be a great fit with the Steelers and should help their running game to be more successful.
Overall, the NFL draft was a lot of fun to watch and speculate about. This year was especially exciting because there were so many great players available and some unexpected picks. Everyone has their own opinion about who was the best pick or the biggest surprise of the draft, but ultimately only time will tell.
