Brio company

BRIO was founded in 1884 in Osby, a small town located in southern Sweden. Today, the small family-run business has grown into the global company BRIO AB, with subsidiaries in Germany, France and Japan and distributors around the world. BRIO´s product portfolio currently consists of numerous toys but also games for the whole family under the brand Alga.

BRIO’s head office has been located in Malmö since 2006. BRIO as a whole employs around 70 people and is represented in about 20 countries.

BRIO has been a Purveyor to the Royal Court of Sweden since the 1940s.

We at BRIO have been creating quality products since the end of the 1800s. Since then, we have successfully combined innovation with respect for our heritage of craftsmanship and products.

Perhaps you have some fond childhood recollections of playing with our toys? Because that’s what our mission is based upon: to create happy childhood memories – ensuring that today’s children feel the same way about BRIO as generations before them.

We will carry on recognising the magic of play, and support children’s growth and development in a safe way. All while making life more enjoyable for you as a parent.

Today, BRIO is owned by Ravensburger, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of puzzles, games and activity products, and ranked among the leading publishers of children’s and youth books in the German-speaking region.

Every year, the Lennart Ivarsson Scholarship awards the BRIO Prize. The BRIO Prize was awarded for the first time in 1992 with an aim of promoting scientific research and development linked to children and toys. This scholarship is given either to a distinguished researcher or to a non-profit organization focusing on children and play.

BRIO takes great pride in its long tradition of high quality pedagogical toys. Many have become timeless icons that could strike a nostalgic chord in any parent or grandparent. Below you will find a selection of some of the most classic BRIO toys from the 1940s until the 1970s. Perhaps you will see a toy that you had as a child?
